Following the Ceasefire: What’s next?

22.01.2025

Dear community,

Clean Shelter welcomes the ceasefire as a crucial step toward fostering improved conditions for civilians and communities. We share in the relief and hope this pivotal moment brings, offering families the opportunity to reunite and envision a brighter future.

At the same time, we must recognize that the humanitarian needs in Gaza remain urgent and overwhelming. There has been extensive devastation across the region's infrastructure, severely impacting essential services such as healthcare, education, and utilities. Conservative estimates indicate that approximately 80% of homes have been destroyed, leaving a significant portion of the population without shelter. According to the United Nations, The health sector has suffered catastrophic damage. Out of 36 hospitals, only 16 remain partially functional, with many lacking the capacity to treat chronic diseases and complex injuries. The World Health Organization has verified 654 attacks on healthcare facilities, exacerbating the health crisis. Educational institutions have not been spared either; at least 90 facilities have been damaged. Furthermore, vital infrastructure, including water and sanitation systems, has been systematically dismantled. The destruction of these services has led to dire living conditions, contributing to the spread of diseases and further endangering public health.

The reconstruction of Gaza presents an immense challenge, with estimates suggesting costs could reach up to $80 billion. Debris removal alone is projected to take 14 years, highlighting the long-term nature of recovery efforts. The extensive damage to infrastructure necessitates substantial international aid and a coordinated effort to rebuild and restore essential services for the people of Gaza.

Against this backdrop of widespread devastation, Clean Shelter remains steadfast in its mission to alleviate the suffering caused by displacement. We are committed to providing immediate relief to displaced communities in Gaza, addressing urgent needs such as shelter, sanitation, and access to clean water, while also supporting long-term recovery efforts. In this critical moment, we invite you to support our mission by contributing donations or spreading the word about our work, helping us reach more people in need and restore dignity and hope to those affected.

With gratitude,

Seba and Tom.
