Mesk and Layan Shelter

"Mesk and Layan'' is a camp situated in El-Mawasi, built by the displaced community of El-Mawasi with the generous support of donations from Palestinians who live abroad. It currently offers accommodation to 700 families.

The camp was intended to give shelter to those who have been displaced for the second time from Nasser Hospital and UNRWA shelters. When heavy rainfall struck, numerous women and children were left without a place to seek refuge. The shelter rapidly expanded to accommodate families in need, with some periods requiring that multiple families share one small tent until additional shelters could be arranged. In response to this pressing need, we initiated the construction of tents to provide immediate relief to these families.

The camp places a priority on accommodating internally displaced persons (IDPs) with disabilities, children, and households led by women.

Residents of Mesk and Layan come from various regions across the Gaza Strip, including individuals who have tragically lost all their family members. In a gesture of hope amidst adversity, we named the camp "Mesk and Layan" after the first two baby girls born there in February 2024.
