Dear community,
In the past month, our work in Gaza has become even more urgent with the changing weather, as the cold and rain intensify the already dire conditions. The rainy winter months bring new challenges to families living in vulnerable circumstances, with inadequate shelter, limited access to heating, and a scarcity of essential supplies. Our team on the ground is actively working to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the most vulnerable communities, many of whom are struggling with limited access to basic necessities. We are prioritizing urgent needs, including providing clean drinking water to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, as well as distributing hygiene kits to promote health and sanitation. By addressing these critical issues, we aim to protect individuals, particularly children and the elderly, from the additional risks posed by the current crisis and the deteriorating living conditions.
This month, we’ve purchased 4000 units of lice-treatment shampoo and 4000 lice removal combs at the total cost of 4000$, to be added to hygiene kits and distributed to displaced families in Al-Mawasi area.
We’ve also transported and distributed a total of 660 cubic liters of clean drinking water: While our own desalination unit produces 3-4 cubic liters per day, which provide for approximately 250 families, every day we purchase and deliver clean drinking water to IDP camps and displaced communities in the south and middle of the Gaza strip. At the moment, we're supplying approximately 2000 families with an average of 20 cubic liters of clean drinking water per day, at a daily cost of 1000€.
Together with Damour, we have been coordinating with Ruwwad to establish a school in the Zomi IDP camp. The school consists of two classrooms, and serves students from the camp as well as the surrounding area. The enrollment of primary school students from grades one to four has already begun, with a total of 160 boys and girls.
At the same time, we continue our efforts to fundraise for the establishment of a new IDP camp in Gaza focused on households led by women, that will provide safe shelter, sanitary facilities, and daily support to some of the most vulnerable communities in the region. In the first phase, the new camp will include 15 tents, 5 eco-friendly toilets and shower units, clean water system, and a solar power system. The estimated costs of the first phase are 30,000€. This will cover land leasing, a fence (5000€), sanitary infrastructure (approximately 7000€), tents, clean water supply, a solar power system (15,000€), and ongoing camp maintenance.
We invite you to donate and help us continue to offer aid to displaced families in Gaza who are in dire need of assistance: https://www.cleanshelter.org/donation.
A donation of 50 EUR will provide one cubic liter of clean drinking water - the daily consumption of up to 100 families; 200 EUR will provide for the daily consumption of approximately 400 families; and 500 EUR will allow us to construct one toilet.
We are deeply grateful for your support – each contribution makes a meaningful difference in providing safety and dignity to those in greatest need!
