Sanitary Solutions

With hundreds of thousands displaced and living in overcrowded conditions, access to safe sanitation is critical to preventing disease outbreaks and ensuring basic human dignity.

Clean Shelter is committed to addressing this urgent need by building toilet and shower facilities in IDP camps and temporary shelters, reducing exposure to sewage and waterborne illnesses.

Building Essential Sanitation Facilities

To combat the growing sanitary crisis, we have installed 279 toilets across Gaza, significantly improving hygiene conditions for displaced families. Our toilet units, many of which include showers, are connected to individual or central sewage pits, reducing contamination risks. In some locations, we have been able to construct more durable and sophisticated units, ensuring greater hygiene, safety, and comfort. To complement these facilities, we also provide water tanks, guaranteeing a reliable water supply for sanitation needs.

Toilet Maintenance & Hygiene Support

Beyond construction, we ensure the ongoing maintenance of these sanitation facilities by distributing cleaning materials to residents, helping them maintain hygienic conditions. In certain locations where residents are unable to manage upkeep themselves, we have deployed cleaning teams to ensure that facilities remain clean and safe, preventing the spread of disease and improving overall living conditions in the camps.

Prioritizing Vulnerable Populations

We place a strong emphasis on assisting women-led households as well as elderly and disabled individuals, ensuring that sanitation facilities are accessible and their dignity is preserved. Safe and private sanitation is particularly crucial for these groups, as well as for children living in displacement camps.

100 Toilets Campaign

In July 2024, we launched the 100 Toilets Campaign, installing 100 toilets across various locations in Al-Mawasi and Zawaideh. This initiative significantly improved living conditions for hundreds of displaced families, providing them with safe and hygienic sanitation solutions.

Scaling Up Sanitary Infrastructure

As displacement continues, we remain committed to expanding our sanitation efforts, ensuring that no one is left without access to safe, clean, and dignified facilities.
