Dear community,
More than 11 months into the war against the civilian population in Gaza, and we are now again getting ready for the changing sessions and the new needs they evoke - mainly protection from the cold and rain. At the same time, the displaced communities of Gaza are in dire and ongoing need of basic necessities such as food, clean water, medication, and shelter. On this backdrop, we continue to strive to alleviate the suffering and hardships of these communities. We would like to share with you our activities in the past month:
• Expanding our Water Distribution: while our own desalination unit produces 3-4 cubic meters per day which provide for approximately 250 families, we continue to purchase and deliver clean drinking water to IDP camps and displaced communities in the south and middle of the Gaza strip. At the moment, we're supplying approximately 2000 families with an average of 20 cubic meters of clean drinking water per day, at a daily cost of 1000€.
• Establishing a New IDP Camp: we are now launching a new project, to establish a new camp that will provide safe shelter, sanitary facilities, and daily support to some of the most vulnerable communities in the region. In the first phase, the new camp will be constructed on 5.5 dunams (5500 m2) of land, and will include 30 tents, 9 eco-friendly toilets and shower units, and a solar power system. The estimated costs of the first phase are 30,000€. This will cover land leasing, a fence (5000€), sanitary infrastructure (approximately 7000€), tents, clean water supply, a solar power system (15,000€), and ongoing camp maintenance. We need your support to start the work as soon as possible. Every donation, big or small, will make a huge difference. In our call for donations earlier this month the link to donate was broken; if you wished to donate but couldn't, now's the time!
• Working with Duke University: we've begun our cooperation with Duke University's Bass Connections program, in which students and faculty get the chance to contribute their expertise to our work, for a whole academic year! • Fundraising in Germany: the wonderful German organization Schalom und Salam invited us to Stuttgart to talk about our work earlier this month, and next week we will do the same at an event held by the Anne Frank Haus in Frankfurt. We are grateful for the opportunity to reach new audiences and fundraise for humanitarian aid to displaced persons in Gaza.
